Robert J. Winklareth, „Naval Shipbuilders of the World”, pisze następująco:
1) The most prolific of the Italian private shipyards in naval construction was the Ansaldo Shiyard of Sestri Ponente near Genoa. The Gio.Ansaldo & C. Works was established in 1853 by Cavour, the first Italian prime minister, and named for its chief engineer, Giovanni Ansaldo. In 1904 the company was incorporated as Societa Anonima Italiana Gio.Ansaldo & C. In 1984, Ansaldo came under the Merchant Shipbuilding Division of the Fincantieri Group. Since 1993, the Ansaldo shipyard become known as Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A., an independent subsidiary company of Fincantieri.
3) In 1913, Fiat-San Giorgio bought out the neighbouring Cantieri Reuniti shipyard, and the facilities were consolidated under the Fiat-San Giorgio name. At the end of the First World War, the consolidated Fiat-San Giorgio shipyard was taken over by Ansaldo of Genoa, and it became Ansaldo San Giorgio. In 1927, the Ansaldo San Giorgio shipyard was taken over by Odero-Terni... In 1930, Odero-Terni entered in a partnership with the Orlando Bros. of Livorno, and the shipyard became known as Odero-Terni-Orlando (OTO) La Spezia... The OTO La Spezia shipyard was left in ruins as a result of the German ocupation of Italy, and in 1949, it was acquired by Ansaldo of Genoa.
