CG of South Korean FFX model from an unidentified source.
There had been a bunch of news on this lately. If things go as planned, first ship will begin construction around 2008. Pretty much everything with the exception of engine and the RAM system will be Korean product. Standard displacement is expected to be around 2,700ton range, ~3,100ton full load.
The basic weaponary is likely to include 8 SSM-700K anti-ship missiles, K-741 light-weight torpedos, a 76mm WIA gun and a 40mm gun. It it likely to feature RAM as primary anti-missile SAM, though in the future, a naval version of K-MSAM (40km range) missile system along with the K-ASROC SUM may be offered in the VLS upgrade.
The ship's sensors are mainly Korean products, ranging from hull-mounted ASW sonar that want into development not too long ago and a TASS. Several versions of the 3D radar is being considering, including the MFR on K-MSAM system and enlarged version of the 3D pencil-beam radar developed for the PKM-X. The ship's combat system is rumored to be improved version of PKM-X anyway.
FFX's defense systems will consist of SONATA electronic warfare system along with Chaff/Flare and anti-torpedo decoy system deployed from Daggie launchers.
If successful, over 20 ships of this class will be built, opening up export potentials for Korean shipyards by having a stable design in service with Korean navy, but also flexible in terms of upgrades.
