The Chinese Government had purchased Messrs E. D.Sassoon & Co.'s steamer
WARATAH for 5,000 taels,
and refitting her at the new arsenal.
Three or four years ago this vessel was sold for 28,000 taels,
or nearly six times more than she has gone into Chinese hands for.
