Bewertung
Gut ist: Die Ausstattung des Buches mit z.T. noch unbekannten Fotografien und Karten ist sehr gut. Reichlich statistisches Material ist in Tabellenform untergebracht. Das Buch wartet auch mit Detailinformationen auf, die nicht gerade gängig sind. Schließlich befindet sich im hinteren Teil des Buches ein Abschnitt mit sehr schönen Seitenrissen der japanischen Flotte.
Schlecht ist: Olender ist nicht imstande, innerhalb des Krieges größere Zusammenhänge sichtbar zu machen. Die Überschriften über den Kapiteln ist zum Teil widersprüchlich (vgl. Kapitel 17 und 18). Die Übersetzung ins Englische ist ein einziges Ärgernis (da – und nicht nur da – fehlt schon ein „the“ beim Titel). Selbstverständlich werden die baltendeutschen Namen der meisten russischen Offiziere mal wieder falsch übersetzt ( Kapitän von Essen heißt Iessen, Admiral Baron Witthoeft heißt Witgeft, Kapitän Reitzenstein heißt Reytsenshteyn, General Baron Stackelberg heißt Shtackelberg usw.)
Fazit: Für WK1-Freaks (wie mich) ein Muss, ansonsten: Hände weg! (hat mich 35 Euronen gekostet).
